Title: Senior Botanist
Location: Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland with hybrid arrangements available (important to be based within a commutable distance)

With a passionate team of 32 and ongoing growth, we are seeking a Senior Ecologist to contribute to our success. As a vital part of our senior team, you will play a key role in driving ecological consultancy, with a particular focus on high-quality botanical work.

Role overview:
As a senior professional, success means managing projects from inception to completion with expertise and attention to detail. Your ecological knowledge will shine as you deliver high-level surveys, assessments, and reporting. Your role as a mentor and manager will contribute to the growth of early career ecologists, making you an integral part of our vibrant and enthusiastic team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Project manage complex ecological surveys and impact assessments, engaging with stakeholders, clients, and project team members.
  • Manage project budgets efficiently, ensuring timely completion and addressing any variances.
  • Prepare comprehensive ecological reports, including mapping and data collation.
  • Implement complex habitat management prescriptions.
  • Prioritize workload, balancing client expectations, resources, and project deadlines.
  • Provide pragmatic and commercially aware ecological advice to major clients.
  • Act as an Expert Witness at oral hearings when necessary.
  • Manage and mentor staff teams, guiding them through a busy and varied workload.
  • Review outputs from colleagues, providing guidance and mentoring for junior members.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:
  • Excellent botanical/habitat assessment and habitat management skills.
  • Four years plus post-graduate experience in a fast-paced environmental consultancy in the Irish Ecological sector.
  • Full, clean EU driving license.
  • Broad ecological experience on large-scale projects, with expertise in impact assessment.
  • Thorough knowledge of ecological legislation and planning policy in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the EU.
  • Proven project management abilities and excellent report-writing skills.
  • Understanding of the EU Habitats Directive as it relates to project-based ecological impact assessments.
