ABOUT US

Julie's Bicycle (JB) is a pioneering non-profit organisation mobilising the arts and culture to take action on the climate crisis. Founded by the music industry in 2007 and now working across the arts and culture, JB has partnered with over 2000 organisations in the UK and internationally. Combining cultural and environmental expertise, JB delivers high impact programmes to meet the climate and ecological crisis head-on.

Our work includes research, training, consultancy, and policy development. We provide the creative community with the full range of tools, knowledge, and inspiration to act. We run a rich programme of events, projects, advocacy, and campaigns. Our Creative Green programme combines sustainability consultancy, expert advice, networking and peer-to-peer knowledge, supporting a wide variety of organisations in arts and culture to embed environmental sustainability into their values and practice.

We offer a suite of free cultural sector-specific carbon calculator tools –the Creative Green Tools - which are recognised as a world-first platform for carbon reporting and environmental monitoring for cultural organisations and businesses including venues, tours, offices, and outdoor events. Our Creative Green framework of Commitment, Understanding, and Improvement supports organisations of all shapes and sizes to manage and reduce their environmental impacts.

Julie’s Bicycle works with a wide range of cultural organisations, from the visual arts sector and museums and galleries, to theatre, performance and music. We have been working to build understanding and actions with organisations including V&A, Tate, Barbican, National Theatre, Old Vic, Donmar Warehouse and cultural services teams for cities in the UK and internationally. We have a long-standing partnership with Arts Council England.

From developing environmental action plans, training and energy audits, to how to design sustainable exhibitions, we support organisations to incorporate sustainability in strategy and governance, understand their environmental impacts and develop and monitor actions plans. This is an exciting time to join a rapidly expanding team of 16 full-timers and additional external associates who, together, represent a unique mix of arts, culture, scientific, environmental and digital expertise.
