ABOUT US

We are one of the largest non-unitary authorities in the UK, responsible for an area of 260 sq. miles that comprises beautiful beaches, pretty villages and ancient forest land.

We deliver a range of services to our 176,500 residents including affordable housing, refuse and recycling, planning and leisure.

We have a reputation for strong community leadership and are committed to improving the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the district as well as playing a leading role in the forest’s future.

Our vision is to be an outward looking council, working closely with the community and in partnership with others to enhance the quality of lives of present and future generations.

Working for us

"Employees are our greatest assets", you hear this said all the time, but at NFDC we continuously strive to help people do their best by valuing their contributions and listening to what they've got to say about the work they do and by providing a healthy, work environment with positive management support for all our 1200 employees.

The Council is also committed to actively supporting good employee relations and has in place collective arrangements for employee consultation and bargaining. At present the Council formally recognises three trade unions; UNITE, GMB and UNISON. There are many benefits to joining a trade union and employees are encouraged to discuss this with the appropriate trade union representative upon joining the Council.

Equality of opportunity in employment
This Council seeks to ensure that all employees, irrespective of their age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy, maternity, race (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), sexual orientation, religion or belief or because they are married or in a civil partnerhsip have equal access to, and quality of, opportunity and equality of status.

Learning and development
The Council strongly promotes continuous learning and development for all its employees. There is a dedicated learning and development site on our intranet. We also run a range of accredited courses in Management Development, Apprenticeships and employees are encouraged to participate. We also run a range of in-house courses including wellbeing initiatives and Line Manager briefings.

The Council will also pay professional subscription fees if they are a required part of your role.
