Established in 2003, OpenSpace is a family run business specialising in habitat restoration and ecological consultancy. Our team of 12 experienced and dedicated individuals carry out all aspects of conservation contracting and ecological survey work on projects within Cumbria, the North of England and Scotland. We operate a team approach to our projects with both consultants and contractor team members working together. All our staff has an interest in nature conservation with most holding an ecological degree or equivalent.
The ethos of the company is to be an ecological led contractor where all our activities benefit nature conservation. Our key work areas are peat bog restoration, river habitat management, river habitat creation, woodland management, wetlands, hay meadows, wildlife surveys and wildlife mitigation. We are considered the leading peatland restoration contractor within the UK where we offer both peatland restoration consultancy with peatland restoration and management.
Our clients range from large multi-national corporations, utilities companies, government agencies, local authorities, environmental organisation, to local conservation charities and individual landowners. We have been involved in many renewable energy schemes where we have offered a multi-discipline service for our clients from planning to installation and project sign-off. We have over 30 years’ experience working for Natural England and Scottish Natural Heritage on their sensitive nature sites (SAC’s, NNR’s and SSSI’s).
