At bp, we are now looking for a dynamic individual to join us as an Electrical grid connection engineer, who will lead development of the electrical scope for power grid connection for offshore wind projects.

About the role:

In more detail, as an Electrical grid connection engineer, some of the key accountabilities will be to:

• Be accountable for the technical concept design and the suitability for the wind to grid interface, underpinning the robustness of concept selection
• Be accountable for the discipline planning for the future phases of the project
• Be accountable for the performance management of the engineering contractor(s)
• Be accountable for relationships with third parties associated with grid connections and for engaging with SME support within the company

This role is open to some flexibility and can be based in the United Kingdom or in the United States of America.  

About you:

You'll have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering subject (electrical engineering, power systems etc).

It would also be essential that you have:

• Technically competence and qualification in electrical engineering discipline in the application to electrical transmission systems, with demonstration of application of engineering principles at a senior level
• Knowledge and technical capability of electrical power systems, interfaces, public electrical grid connections and design
• Deep technical understanding of process managing the interface between project electrical scope and connections to transmission infrastructure
• Detailed knowledge of infrastructure networks as well as the relevant codes, standards and regulations
• Experience of projects (pre-FEED/FEED/detailed design, construction, installation and operations support)
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across functions and within multi-disciplinary teams 
• High motivation and the ability to set and achieve goals as part of a team
• Ability to define and prioritise issues and solve problems through focused effort and networking with other team members or external sources
• Ability to performance manage others (including 3rd party engineering services providers) and support timely decision making
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

It would also be useful, but not vital, that you have:

• Experience of offshore wind projects
• Knowledge and experience of power system modelling and protection relay coordination
• Knowledge and experience of hazardous area classification and management of electrical and instrumentation equipment in either onshore or offshore hydrocarbon environments
• Chartered engineer status
• Experience of contributing to integration across other functions 
• Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision 
• Strong leadership, facilitation and problem solving / analytical skills
