Would you like to support the delivery of Appraisal Management activities?

At bp, we are now looking for dynamic individuals to join us as Appraisal engineers, who will be responsible for providing support and integration across disciplines to appraisal management to develop and deliver concept selection for projects, decision making under uncertainty, creation of the plan and handover to delivery team. 

About the role:

In more detail, as an Appraisal engineer, some of the key accountabilities will be to:

• Be accountable for understanding, framing and screening opportunities, then progressing to GCD or third-party for execution 
• Collaborate to support other functions and Business areas to bring Projects expertise and business integration skills across relevant bp business groups
• Deliver the Appraisal Management activities as described in MPcp and CatBcp, and OBO Practice, and supported by the practices described in the Appraisal Management Guide
• Support technical benchmarking, development assessments and rapid screening process
• Promote powerful collaboration, integration and influencing capability to support delivery without line accountability

This role is open to some flexibility and can be based in the United Kingdom or in the United States of America.  

About you:

You'll have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or Finance, with a background in a wide range of disciplines - Subsurface, Finance, Wells, Discipline Engineering, Project Engineering. 

It would also be essential that you have:

• Experience of projects
• Understanding of HSE expectations and standards; and ability to demonstrate genuine commitment and safety leadership by articulating HSE goals, promoting inherently safer design and low carbon solutions and identifying major hazards/risks
• In Screening stage, ability to support cross-functional assessment of business opportunities to generate/maintain a justified, prioritized, balanced and doable project portfolio that fits within the capital frame
• In Concept Development stage, ability to confirm business case viability of projects to support the recommendation of a safe and competitive project concept that is robust to the technical and commercial risks to progress into Optimize/Pre-FEED stage
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across functions and within multi-disciplinary teams
• Ability to develop strong relationships and collaborate with a wide range of functions/businesses that sponsor and support progression of project opportunities
• High motivation and ability to set and achieve goals as part of a diverse team
• Ability to define and prioritise issues and solve problems through focused effort and networking with other team members or external sources
• Proven technically competency in a core engineering discipline (structural, mechanical, process) or equivalent for candidates from other disciplines (subsurface, wells, finance)
• Ability to performance manage others (including 3rd party engineering services providers) and support timely decision making
• Proven decision making under uncertainty

It would also be useful, but not vital, that you have:

• Experience with offshore wind projects  
• Experience of contributing to integration across other functions
• Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision 
• Some leadership, facilitation and strong problem solving / analytical skills
• Modelling experience
