Salary: £49,810 – £56,690 p.a. London Weighting

In 2020, the City of London Corporation adopted a Climate Action Strategy which sets out a pathway towards net zero carbon emissions across the City of London by 2040. The Strategy includes ambitious targets to achieve net zero in City Corporation activities and buildings and separate targets for net zero amongst City of London businesses and across the wider Square Mile. Proactive engagement and joint working with City/Square Mile businesses will be a key element in delivery of net zero across the City.

Delivery of zero carbon in the Square Mile sits within the Planning Policy service of the Environment Department. You will be directly responsible for the delivery of key projects within the Climate Action Strategy’s Square Mile workstream, recruiting and managing a small team of officers and/or external consultant teams to deliver these projects. Your role will provide oversight, direction and co-ordination for the Square Mile projects, including monitoring and reporting of progress to senior officers and Members.

You will have detailed knowledge of current carbon accounting, greenhouse gas methodologies and reporting frameworks, with proven experience in climate change project management and consultancy in a large organisation, including engaging with senior internal and external stakeholders, good experience of change management within a climate related field and experience in the management of a team of professional officers and commissioning and managing of consultant teams in relation to climate change actions.

An applied science, engineering or economics related discipline graduate qualification or accreditation, or an equivalent level of knowledge acquired through professional experience, is required for this role. You must have an ability to prepare clear and concise reports and to convey complex issues to a range of audiences, including those without technical knowledge in climate change.
