Title: Trademark & Licensing Officer 

Area of Responsibility: Trademark Support

Reports to: Business Development Manager 

Contract type: Full-time or part-time; Permanent, (subject to successful completion of a probationary period)

Salary: From £21,828p.a. pro rata

Location: Llanidloes/Home-based, with very occasional travel within the UK. Although this role may initially be home-based in line with the Welsh Government’s COVID guidance, once restrictions are lifted, the successful applicant will work from the FSC UK office in Llanidloes as required.  The organisation will offer a hybrid model for your place of work of both office and home-based. 

Hours: Up to 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday)

Introduction to the role:

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is an international organisation dedicated to ensuring that forests are managed in a responsible manner across the globe. FSC UK, based in Llanidloes, Powys, is one of the larger national offices. FSC UK is a registered charity responsible for promoting the FSC’s aims and objectives throughout the United Kingdom.

We are seeing increasing interest from brands and retailers seeking to use the FSC trademarks to promote their use and sale of FSC-certified products.  It is essential that the relationship we have with these companies is proactively managed and that we support those companies committed to the FSC system. 

We are seeking a new member of our team, who will provide administrative support to existing and potential FSC Promotional Licence Holders. A thorough induction to the role and full FSC training will be provided.

The Trademark & Licensing Officer role will be crucial to this work and will require a patient and polite individual who has the ability to understand and communicate FSC's requirements effectively. Attention to detail will be paramount to this role, as will be a proven ability to maintain effective working relationships and indeed to enjoy doing so. You'll join a small but ambitious team of people who are dedicated to supporting our Promotional Licence Holders and who enjoy communicating FSC's message.

Main purpose and responsibilities of the role:

Supporting potential promotional licence holders:

- Providing support to potential licence holders who are in the process of applying for a licence, ensuring that they are eligible based on business activity
- Liaising with potential licence holders who are submitting supporting documentation and verifying products as eligible for promotion
- Liaising with potential licence holders during licensing process to ensure licenses are structured appropriately to facilitate trademark use as required
- Liaising with FSC’s Legal Team with regards any queries on or proposed amendments to the licence agreement

Helping to deliver TSP programme: acting as a Trademark Service Provider (TSP):

• Administration of existing promotional licences
• Facilitating promotional licence renewals
• Maintaining annual confirmation notes
• Keeping contact details up to date
• Approving artwork as required
• Verifying and recording product data as required
• Issuing promotional licences as required
• Proactive monitoring of promotional licence holder trademark use

Supporting the wider team

- Responding to telephone and email enquiries, as appropriate, delivering advice on the use of the FSC trademarks
- Supporting Business Development Manager in Promotional Licence Holder data management
- Assisting the Business Development Manager and support the work of the Business Team as required.
- Communicating with colleagues at FSC International and the wider network 
Person Specification:

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office
- Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience 
- Experience of maintaining business/client accounts
- Administrative/clerical experience 
- Experience of communicating effectively and accurately both in spoken and written form

Desirable
- Experience of business contracts 
- An existing understanding of FSC
- Knowledge of intellectual property law/licensing
- Experience of using a CRM database such as Salesforce
- Experience of working within a customer facing/service environment

Skills and Abilities 

Essential
- Attention to detail and ability to undertake and manage accurate recording and reporting of information
- Effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload
- Proven negotiation skills
- An excellent phone manner and ability to remain calm and objective when under pressure 
- A quick learner
- Ability to work on own initiative but happy to follow instruction and accept guidance
- Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain good working relationships.

- Clean UK driving licence
