About us

Planning and Environment Service is part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property.

Our key priorities include:

* Mitigating and adapting to Climate Change and working towards our ambition of being net carbon zero by 2050 including large scale tree planting
* Delivery of the new Buckinghamshire Local Plan
* Proactively manage development within Buckinghamshire to ensure sustainable and high-quality development bringing benefits to people who live, work and visit here.
* Introduction of Biodiversity net gain into planning system
* Ensuring Buildings are well designed and constructed under the Building regulations, protecting the health and safety of people who live, work and visit Buckinghamshire.
* Delivering improvements to the service to provide a modern and digital planning service that is simple, accessible and transparent and makes timely, high-quality decisions.
* Establishing an empowered culture within the service, building skills, capability and capacity.
* Keeping planning decisions local
* Continued development of Neighbourhood Plans
* Tough approach to Planning Enforcement
* As Lead Local Flood Authority continued action on flood prevention and resilience through ensuring developments deliver sustainable drainage without increase flood risk and delivery of key capital floor prevention schemes

About the role

You will be responsible for delivering excellent environmental and climate change services to the residents and businesses of Buckinghamshire. You will provide effective leadership, management and strategic direction for the service. You will lead on the transformational change programme to ensure that all services across Energy and Resources, Climate Change and Environmental services deliver on service and strategic objectives. Importantly, you will ensure that our Environmental specialist services seamlessly interact with the planning service to deliver high quality, customer-focused outcomes.

With a strong and supportive senior management team behind you, you’ll play a critical role in helping us achieve our Planning and Environment Business plan and drive forward our vision as a new unitary authority.

About you

Naturally, you’ll have excellent interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills with a high level of personal expertise. You will also have significant relevant experience of managing a service / professional expertise area in a large public sector organisation demonstrating substantial experience of service planning and delivery.

You will be someone who has authority and credibility to build relationships and engage successfully with colleagues, partners and customers at all levels in complex or politically sensitive areas.
