The role you are applying for as Freshwater Taxonomist to lead on the analysis of freshwater macroinvertebrate samples to the required quality and standard, delivered on time and budget for the monitoring team on a range of surveys across the UK. The candidate will need to maintain the laboratory to a high standard in health, safety, quality, and environmental management as well as manage people and resources in the effective delivery of project planning, delivery, data management and reporting. 
 
Key measurables for the role

• Projects delivered safely, to required quality and environmental standards, completed on time and budget. 
• Timely reporting of issues surrounding health and safety, quality and environment, time and cost. Laboratory maintained to a high standard preventing delays to program due to avoidable equipment down time.
• Timely reporting of equipment faults.
• Consistently passing the AQC criteria for sample analysis.
 
Person specification

• Formal environmental/biological qualification – Undergraduate or above
• Full membership of a professional body (E.g., IFM, CIEEM, RSB
• CSCS card
• First Aid certificate
• Driving license (Category B)Invertebrate Identification For Biotic Assessment (or similar)
• Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience, ideally including roles within consultancy.
• Experience of following industry standard methodologies to process macroinvertebrate samples to mixed taxon/species level.
• Experience with using stereo and compound microscopes.
• Numerate, literate, and familiar with IT and specialist analysis software such as RICT.
• Experience working with biological indices.
• Demonstrable specialist ecological knowledge.
• Experience of managing health and safety in a laboratory setting.
• Awareness of UK legislation relevant to a laboratory setting.
• Awareness of UK and EU conservation legislation and development of mitigation strategies for protected aquatic species
• Knowledge of program, resource, and financial management
• Proven experience of working in, on and near water safely would be advantageous.
• Proven experience of biological sample collection would be advantageous.
 
Salary and benefits 

• Up to £29,000 depending on experience 
• Based out of Head office in Thruxton
