ESG & Climate Change Advisor

Job Description

This is a new consultancy role that has been created in response to the rapid growth of our client's ESG Advisory Team not just in Europe but across the World. There is flexibility in terms of location for the right candidate although it is desirable that they are in either France, Germany, Ireland or the UK. In this exciting new role you will work with many colleagues and clients from across the business including those located outside of Europe.

  • As an important member of the ESG Advisory team, you provide support to ESG consulting projects, prepare technical proposals and develop further our ESG analytical tools, data management, services, and thought leadership.
  • Provide analytical support on ESG consulting projects, including mapping of client data to ESG and sustainability criteria for sustainability reporting and improving operational performance.
  • Undertake international travel as required.
  • Support ESG due diligence for acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, joint ventures, and project finance.
  • Actively participate in the analysis, evaluation and optimization of processes and organizational structures along our clients’ value chains, with a focus on ESG, energy transition, sustainable finance, and sustainability communication.
  • Support ESG strategy, program development and implementation.
  • Help translating the EU action plan for sustainable finance into clients’ requirements and support its implementation.
  • Work on multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Prepare technical proposals, participate in business development with existing clients, and identify leads.
  • Develop further our ESG analytical tools, data management, services, and thought leadership.

Essential Requirements

  • Understanding of key market drivers in the Financial Services sector, e.g. climate change management, SDGs and the TCFD recommendations, relevant ESG frameworks, regulations, and sustainable finance taxonomy.
  • Experience working with or knowledge of non-financial impact measurement methodologies; climate-related risk management; integrated ESG risk management; sustainability reporting, ESG ratings & rankings (DJSI, Ecovadis), or ESG investment framework.
  • Strong quantitative and data management and manipulation skills.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and use initiative to bring creative ideas to the business and clients.
  • Demonstrable, relevant experience which is preferred to be in consultancy and with relevant project experience.
  • Excellent command of German and English (written and spoken, with an ability to write technical reports in English).
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking, personal drive and "getting things done" attitude.

Desirable qualifications

  • Certified ESG analysts and Sustainable Finance are highly desirable as are those with post graduate degrees in an Environmental Science, Finance or Sustainability disciplines.
  • A broad range of experience covering a range of sectors, ideally including one or more of: financial; industrial; minerals & mining; manufacturing; and/or infrastructure.
  • An understanding of ESG supply chain risk assessments, ESG and sustainability ratings/rankings.
  • Experience in securing work from existing or new clients who are outside personal technical expertise or geography.
