Technical Officer in Geophysics

The Geophysics Section of the School of Cosmic Physics, Dublin Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS) invites applications for a Technical Officer to contribute to its activities in both Marine and Terrestrial seismology. The successful candidate will have (i) demonstrated experience and capability in both Marine & Terrestrial Instrumentation in Broad Band seismology (ii) Broad Band Seismic data extraction, archiving & instrument correction processing experience (iii) experience in Broad Band seismology data quality control (iv) field work experience in Broad Band seismology, ideally in challenging environments (v) demonstrated good computing skills in a Linux environment (vi) basic electronics capabilities. (vii) experience in handling seismic nodes, nodal data and processing data from nodal arrays. 

The successful candidate will support Technical aspects of our National marine geophysics infrastructure pool (www.iMARL.ie) and will be expected to work closely with and, where appropriate, support staff at the Irish National Seismic Network (www.INSN.ie).

The position has a substantial outdoors component, and the holder well be expected to undertake field work in demanding conditions both at sea and in remote and challenging terrestrial environments (both in Ireland & abroad). 

Duration: Full time. Permanent

Salary:  €40,395 to €53,437 (PPC scale). New Entrants will be appointed on the minimum point of the scale.   A lower scale will apply where the appointee is an existing civil/public servant recruited before April 1995 and not paying a Personal Pension Contribution.

Minimum Qualification: Undergraduate degree in Geophysics or a related discipline. A post- graduate degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.  

Start date & Location: As soon as possible. Based in Dublin.
