This is a fully remote role, however, ideally the successful individual will live within commutable distance to Manchester centre, as an office presence and contact time with sub-consultants is desirable.

The aim for this role is to expand the team across the region over the next 3 years’, growing the team up to 15 ecologists, ideally each bringing varying areas of expertise, creating an eclectic in-house function with the ability to deliver projects in a timeline fashion, across a wide range of specialism / requirements.

Key Responsibilities

* To lead and mentor all sub-consultants, ensuring reports are delivered in a timeline manner.
* Reviewing and signing off reports, providing constructive feedback and coaching where required.
* Ensure that all output is delivered to the highest standard, to budget and within committed timelines.
* Tender preparation; writing proposals, budgeting, programmes and scope both alone, both internally and with external stakeholders / clients.
* Project management of a range of projects with potentially multidisciplinary teams based in various locations.
* Client management, successfully developing, maintaining and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.
* Attend and present at appropriate business development events including networking events and conferences.
* Business development, including maintaining and extending relationships with existing clients as well as securing and managing new work.
* Health and Safety responsibilities; make use of the tools, equipment, training and resources; and actively engage with colleagues at all levels to contribute to the continuous improvement of health and safety management.

Role Requirements

Essential:

* Knowledge of EU and UK legislation - ecology and environmental issues, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Ecological Impact Assessments and planning regulations.
* Experience of undertaking survey work including leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects.
* Experience managing & developing sub-consultants, ideally also familiar doing so with remote-working teams.
* Proven experience of expanding and managing a terrestrial ecology portfolio within a consultancy setting and to represent it external stakeholders.
* Experience of providing authoritative ecological advice and innovative mitigation solutions/enhancement considerations across a range of sites and schemes with varying levels of environmental and ecological sensitivities.

Desirable:

* Demonstrable track record wining work, experience of preparing bids and tenders and generating new business opportunities.
* Full membership of CIEEM (or to have eligibility if not currently held)
* Hold at least one Natural England protected species licence
* FISC level 4 or above
