We are seeking a skilled Roads Design Engineer to join an expanding Highways and Transportation team in Cork. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning and design of a variety of transport projects across Ireland, including road, rail, public transport, and active travel initiatives. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering (Level 8/9) with relevant experience in a consultancy environment.
  • Actively working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads.
  • Solid understanding of relevant design standards, with the ability to create practical, buildable, and cost-effective designs.
  • Experience in planning and designing road schemes, preferably within Ireland, including feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, and statutory processes (EIAR, CPO).
  • Experience in design and build projects, as well as contract document preparation, contract administration, and construction supervision.
  • Full Irish/EU driving license.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and design a range of transport projects, including roads, rail, public transport, and active travel schemes throughout Ireland.
  • Contribute to statutory processes such as Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) and Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPO).
  • Participate in procurement processes and the preparation of comprehensive contract documents.
  • Administer contracts and oversee construction supervision to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the required standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Utilise relevant design software to develop high-quality, buildable designs that meet client requirements and adhere to industry standards.
