The Opportunity

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer – Transmission & Distribution to provide technical leadership across major high-voltage transmission projects.

This role offers the opportunity to support the development, review, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of critical electricity infrastructure, acting as a key technical interface between project teams, contractors and clients. The successful candidate will provide engineering assurance across a range of transmission assets, including substations, overhead lines and cable systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Review detailed engineering designs to ensure compliance with functional requirements, client specifications and national and international standards.
• Assess and review technical and functional specifications for transmission infrastructure projects.
• Manage technical queries throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and appropriately documented.
• Provide technical guidance and challenge designs where required to maintain high engineering standards.
• Undertake site inspections and monitor construction activities to confirm works are delivered in accordance with approved designs.
• Carry out pre-commissioning and commissioning inspections to verify system readiness and compliance.
• Participate in project reviews, technical audits, factory acceptance tests and approval processes.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of technical capability within the team.

About You

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong technical knowledge of transmission infrastructure, particularly substations operating at 110kV, 220kV and 400kV.
• Experience across substations, overhead lines and high-voltage cable systems.
• Ability to assess designs, construction activities and commissioning processes against technical, operational and safety requirements.
• Understanding of key design deliverables, including single line diagrams, protection schemes, interlocking systems and substation layouts.
• Experience carrying out site inspections, construction monitoring and commissioning activities.
• Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong organisational abilities with a proactive and collaborative approach.
• Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership is desirable.
