Our Landscape Architecture team in Leeds is currently looking for a Landscape Architect with experience in public realm design to lead and deliver high quality design projects across the country. The office is ideally located in the city centre, near to Bridgewater Place. This role is available on a full time or part time (3 or 4 days a week) basis. 
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding and experience of the sector and be fully conversant with current best practice in public realm design. We are looking for an ambitious team player with strong development skills who wishes to lead in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.   The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.

Nationally our Landscape Architecture team comprises some 102 staff and provides one-stop access to a variety of services. The Leeds team of currently seven landscape architects and urban designers has an established track record of successfully delivering landscape design schemes throughout the country.   We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background in design that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.The team provides services ranging from feasibility studies, detailed design and construction on a wide range of contracts and also supports other AECOM business lines including transport and infrastructure.   

Our Leeds team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients from the private and public sector. Our leading clients include Leicester City Council, Homes and Communities Agency, HS2, the National Trust, the Environment Agency and numerous Local Authorities, as well as leading contractors and developers.
We have an impressive portfolio of major national and international infrastructure projects.   A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
  • Detailed design and contract administration  for the upgrade of six streets in Leicester’s heritage quarter incorporating bespoke street furniture
  • Neighbourhood planning – urban design studies and proposals for the improvement and creation of new spaces and connectivity within towns
  • Oakham High Street - design options and subsequent detail design and implementation for the enhancement of the high street.
  • Public realm strategy for Paisley town centre as part of their bid for City of Culture 2021
  • Detail design for a major residential project in York on former industrial land.

Job Responsibilities:
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
  • Prepare concept designs in collaboration with other specialist disciplines
  • Undertake presentations to stakeholder groups, lead on design charrettes and workshops
  • Produce drawings using the Autodesk Suite of software, with the necessary level of detail as required for public realm projects at various stages of development: studies, conceptual design, detailed design and construction.
  • Knowledge of the use of BIM will be beneficial.
  • Producing technical reports such as public realm strategies and feasibility studies.
  • Reporting to the landscape design team leader you will also interface directly with other team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams.
  • You will have strong development skills and have the ability to develop and manage the work of others.
  • Have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to develop and mentor junior staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams.
  • Develop the internal AECOM market and collaborate with all business lines.
  • Assist with bidding and preparation of tender submissions.
  • Be aware of and understand the AECOM IMS procedures, their importance and their application to projects

Minimum Requirements:

  • You will have experience in working for local authority and private sector clients in design and delivery of high quality public realm projects
  • ​You will be proficient and experienced user of AutoCAD and the Adobe suite of products to produce high quality technical drawings and details within a live project environment. 
  • Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders using a variety of media.
  • Ability  to convey ideas and responses to client  briefs with written and illustrated technical reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience of some or all of the following software is also highly desirable: Revit or Bentley.
  • Full driving licence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You will have a degree in Landscape Architecture and be a chartered member of the Landscape Institute
