The Client

An opportunity has arisen with our client, to acquire a individual to perform a senior role within the business and develop the northern region of the UK.

Our client is a rapidly expanding multidisciplinary engineering lead consultancy.

Established from an MBO just over 10 years ago, they employed 15 people working from a single site, today they now employ over 250 staff, operating from 8 UK offices and during this time they have grown their turnover from £1 million to £18 million today.

Our client specialises in delivery of civil and structural engineering, building services and geo-environmental consulting services, to the market sectors of residential, commercial and infrastructure.  Over the last 10 years they have grown via targeted acquisition of niche consultancies, who have robust client relationships and who employ credible engineers.  Their offices now cover the UK from London through to Scotland.  A recent substantial investment by a equity partner has enabled the 3 year business plan to include options for more acquisitions in addition to hiring individuals key individuals within the market, to ensure each service line is represented across the UK such that the forecast for growth for next year is to double the current turnover.  

The geo-environmental division is well established and has been the fastest developing division within the company.  With a strong presence in the Midlands and South East, there is a focus on capitalising on the existing client relationships to further develop the northern region, which extends both sides of the Pennines.  Based from the office in Manchester or Leeds which incorporate established engineering teams and gaining support from the existing geo-environmental teams, this role is key to the expansion of the organisation and would have a direct reporting line to the board.  

The organisation has an autonomous culture which is geared towards a balanced work/life culture and this would be reflected in this role.  The successful individual would play a leading role in reinforcing this culture and developing and delivering sustainable business to further develop a successful and resilient team.  


The role is a management role with dual technical and business development responsibilities within the organisation. 

Responsibilities would include;

Identify suitable projects at an early stage and outline appropriate solutions

Review tender documents offering guidance regards technical elements

Work with the existing regional teams to further develop client relationships

Recruit, develop and mentor the geo-environmental team

Ensure appropriate tenders are managed and secured, whilst liaising with clients and staff appropriately

Support the delivery teams, verifying work at all stages of the project

Contributing to the strategic business plan in developing the company growth

The Individual

The successful candidate would be based within striking distance of Manchester, or potentially Leeds  

They would be expected to be enthusiastic and have the drive and desire to grow the business.

A track record of delivering and developing the geotechnical / geo-environmental services within the UK, ideally with existing relationships within the north 

In return, a competitive package will be offered.  

A salary including benefits would be provided which would be in line with the industry.  

In addition an equity vehicle could be included.
