The Client

A rare opportunity to join one of the most respected specialist geotechnical consultancies.  

Our client has a reputation for technical excellence within geotechnical assessment and design, but also engineering geology and geo-environmental solutions.  They predominantly deliver within complex projects with problem ground conditions and within high profile or high risk projects, within transport infrastructure, buildings, and land developments.  Using a range of analytical techniques including numerical modelling to identify specific geotechnical design requirements can vary from foundations, soil and rock slopes, retaining structures, deep basements, temporary works and mines through to tailings dams. 

Projects delivered on range from Crossrail, HS1 & 2, M50 & M42 motorway upgrades, Limerick Immersed Tube Tunnel to name but a few.

Their approach to clients is one of maintaining technical credibility, such that they are typically drafted into deal with complex projects by major consultancies and contractors and a significantly large proportion of their business is expert witness work, which is reflected by the quality of staff they have employed.  

The parent group is a $multi billion organisation and has over 400 locations worldwide offering stability and international reach.  The UK operation employs around 40 staff and works autonomously operating from 4 UK offices and also in Dubai. Culturally they have a flat autonomous structure and a small company feel.  Each office works as part of the UK team and contributes to delivering projects throughout the UK and internationally according to their technical specialisms.  They have a supportive ethic to their staff often, more junior members of the team would be given the opportunity to manage and co-ordinate senior skills in projects in order to develop all of the organisations talent. 

Typically, they do not typically loose staff to the industry, however, a they now have a need to acquire a senior individual from the market, due to growth of their business, but also to replace a two senior people who have left the UK market, causing a resource gap within their business.

The Role

Reporting to the office in Reading, the role would be geared towards helping to develop the office together with working as part of the UK team to deliver on a wide range of projects.  Responsibilities would include;

Input and deliver on relevant existing and new projects

Provide leadership and technical mentoring within the organisation

Developing existing and new accounts to identify and secure new projects

Deliver projects to high technical standards, safely and within budget and timescale

Provide a strategy for growth for Reading, build on the existing team by identifying, recruiting and mentoring new talent

This role is of high significance, it is a key hire for the organisation projected to be an office lead for Reading office one of the senior individuals in the organisation.  

The Individual

May Walters have been retained to find the right individual who will be a good cultural fit for the business in addition to bringing technical and commercial acumen, therefore applications would be considered from senior individuals, in addition to those who are looking to make their mark in the industry. 

The successful individual would need to have as a minimum;

Would currently be within a 1 hour commute to Reading, or would consider relocation to this area

Possess appropriate qualifications and charterships

Have a track record of delivering geotechnical design of at least 10 years

Have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years

Would have a desire to grow the business and ideally could demonstrate a track record of doing so
