Represent the Energy Delivery Programme (EDP) through technically and strategically assessing complex environmental, heritage and recreational elements of energy development on NRW sites including those of high public or political interest. Lead on liaison and decision making with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the decisions taken are consistent and protective of the environment whilst supporting economic growth and facilitating business opportunities. The role will focus on Projects in south Wales but will retain an element of pan Wales delivery.

The current Energy Portfolio includes the following Programme areas:

• Large and Small Scale Onshore Wind Energy
• Small Scale Hydro Energy
• Third Party Access including power line agreements for energy developments across the NRW Managed Estate
• New Energy Business Opportunities in areas such as Energy Parks, unconventional gas, biomass and other emerging technologies.

Essential: 

Degree in environmental science or related subject and / or relevant experience of managing environmental issues on a construction site. 

Excellent interpersonal skills, team working skills and the ability to deal appropriately with people of all levels and ability to be self-motivated and lone work.

Excellent written and spoken communication skills for a range of audiences and good IT skills (particularly Word, Excel, GIS).

Desirable: 

Excellent and proven technical and specialist understanding and experience of environmental issues (e.g. EIAs, EPS licensing), climate change and sustainable development issues (e.g. UKFS / UKWAS) that impact on NRW Managed Estate and the potential to impact wider. 

The ability to negotiate and influence effectively within NRW and with external customers to deliver sustainable environment, heritage and recreation management.

A good understanding and experience of working within the Welsh and national planning system (NSIP).
