Environmental Consultant/ Senior Environmental Consultant – Waste/ Materials

Overview of Role:
Reporting to our Technical Director who focuses on Construction Environmental Management & Sustainability you will be responsible for delivering waste and materials solutions. This will be a key role within the sector, providing leadership and technical advice.
 
You will be responsible for managing selected projects (or components of projects) meeting budgetary, quality, safety and timeframe targets, while exceeding client expectations. As part of a growing and agile team you can be involved in some of the UK’s most complex, iconic and challenging projects that are diverse and technically demanding. These include major regeneration projects, garden cities, energy opportunities, infrastructure schemes and strategic land optimisation. 
 
Your Day-to-Day:

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the production of Environmental Statements (preparing Waste and Material Resources Chapters, Climate Chapters, Operational Waste Strategies, Materials Management Plans and Site Waste Management Plans)
  • Providing both leadership and technical advice to team members, where appropriate
  • Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors, quality assurance and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications
  • Managing commercial aspects (contract, invoicing, debt, client management etc) of projects to ensure a successful result
  • Keeping in regular contact the Technical Director and Project Managers to keep informed of all developments associated with the project
  • Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
  • Responsible for preparing bid submission at the level of bid manager
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Arcadis

What You have to Offer:
 
Essential:

  • Relevant degree in environmental science/engineering or a combination as appropriate
  • An experienced and proactive project manager with a track record of identifying new clients and developing new business
  • Demonstrable post-graduate experience in waste, material resources and carbon and working knowledge on the construction industry best practice.
  • To include working with clients to identify cost effective ways to minimise construction, demolition and excavation waste and to implement actions to minimise carbon emissions.
  • Skills required include developing Site Waste Management Plans (including the quantification of construction, excavation and demolition waste), Materials Management Plans and Waste Strategies (covering construction and operational waste).
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Experience of successfully managing projects to time and budget, delivering client satisfaction and adding value.
  • Demonstrable client care skills in securing new work in addition to existing client retention
  • Good knowledge and experience of commercial aspects of projects

Desirable:

  • Relevant chartership with post-graduate qualification an advantage
  • Experience delivering operational waste projects
  • BREEAM and/or CEEQUAL Assessor
  • Experience delivering Climate Change Adaptation Strategies and carrying out Pre-demolition Audits
  • Experience preparing Sustainability Statements
  • Experience in Construction Environmental Management
  • Audit and inspection experience
