Middle East Director

Reporting to the Managing Director, the key responsibility of this role is to expand our activity in the Middle East region, meeting and exceeding agreed targets for orders, revenue and profit. The Middle East Director will formulate and drive a regional business growth strategy working in collaboration with our Practice Directors, and other senior managers in the business. The Director will shape, develop and lead the implementation of the growth strategy for the region and will manage and develop deep client relationships.

The role will be pivotal for our key objective to pursue growth and expansion in the region. It will include developing our regional business development initiatives and project delivery models whilst strengthening our relationships and collaboration with partners. This will include taking ownership for a significant pipeline of existing opportunities, identifying and developing major new opportunities with new and existing customers and driving them through the sales funnel into secure revenue.

The role will be based in a Ricardo entity in one of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Key Accountabilities

Develop, agree and implement a strategic plan for the Middle East market consistent with Ricardo strategic goals.

Define and lead the Middle East business plan to drive orders, working with Practice Directors and other senior managers in the business.

Identify and develop substantial market opportunities through high-level client engagement and market knowledge drawing upon existing networks in region.

As a key account manager for Middle East clients, take a leading role in client engagement – working with the Practices and clients to deliver excellent project outcomes, resolve issues and ensure prompt payment for services provided.

Identify and develop new relationships with appropriate partners to open up markets and opportunities for expansion and collaboration.

Oversee successful delivery of projects and high-quality proposal preparation.

Ensure necessary employee recruitment, retention, development and reviews, to meet business objectives.

Ensure appropriate profile raising and marketing of our services and capability

Key Competencies and Experience

Established as an influential leader in their technical/professional field and respected by external clients in that market sector, with access to a wide network of customers at the most senior levels in business and government in the Middle East.

Strong business development background and commercial acumen with a good understanding of the Energy and Environment sector in the Middle East.

Highly competent in understanding the market sectors with the ability to optimise commercial focus and lead business growth and development, whilst balancing against risk.

Significant relevant experience in consultancy or similar comparable or related working environment.

Able to take full responsibility for engagement with senior levels of client organisations relating to large complex projects and programmes.

Demonstrable experience and track record in managing customer accounts (and associated high levels of supporting activity) and in driving increased value, whilst also optimising potential for repeat business and cross selling from those accounts/networks.

Clear evidence of team-working in delivering positive sales outcomes.

A Bachelors, Masters or PhD; may also hold a post-graduate qualification, business qualification or a comparable professional qualification.

Skills and Behaviours:

Excellent sales and consultancy skills e.g. negotiation, presentation skills, relationship management.

Ability to influence senior clients, identifying areas for cross selling and repeat business whilst also developing new business.

Innovative thinking skills to solve client challenges.

Strong people leadership skills (particularly of virtual/remote teams).

Effective and highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, including excellent report and bid-writing skills and ability to give presentations and lead debate at all levels.

Must be self-motivated and resilient, particularly in the context of working in a remote location.

Must be a team player – identifying routes within and across the business, and with partner organisations to enable effective and successful collaboration.

Proven track record of working successfully in the Middle East. Well-tuned cultural awareness with the knowledge and skills required to navigate sensitively and ethically within the often complex commercial environment.

Fully conversant with commonly used software, e.g. Microsoft Office, email, internet.
