Report To: Managing Director

Supervisor Of: Currently 2 Engineers

Required Qualifications: Master Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Energy or related field

Required Experience: Previous experience of at least 5 years in a similar role

IT Skills: Microsoft Office proficiency, management and business development experience

Location: Bristol

Driving: The ability to drive is preferable but not a requirement.

Hours of Work: 9:00am - 5:30 Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch. Flexibility may be both allowed and required to ensure the business objectives are met.

Training:  Employees may be offered the opportunity to participate in relevant training in line with Bluefield’s stated objective to maintain and develop a skilled team.

Description of Bluefield Services 

Bluefield Services was established in May 2015 and is currently one of the leading asset management companies in the renewable energy sector in UK. 
Bluefield Services undertakes advisory/owners engineering services including technical due diligence, construction monitoring, commissioning and acceptance.
Bluefield Services undertakes complete scope asset management: financial and administrative management of projects companies (management and statutory accounts, invoices and payments, coordination of auditors, loan administration and compliance) and the complete scope of technical management services (monitoring and reporting, stakeholders’ management, interface with DNOs, on-site supervision and implementation of O&M activity, health and safety and environmental compliance). 
 
Bluefield Services currently manages circa 500 MW of solar PV assets located in England and Wales.

Purpose of the Head of Engineering Services Role

The Engineering Services team provide technical advisory and due diligence services to the Bluefield Group and to external clients. The Head of Engineering Services will be responsible for delivering the company’s strategic objectives including technical excellence, business development and growth for the Engineering Services team. The role requires a combination of technical, management, commercial and business development skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide technical advisory services for projects under development, construction and operation, which may include but is not limited to technical due diligences, constructions monitoring, assessment of the project performance, site inspections and project management
• Assume day-to-day management responsibility for the technical service business by ensuring that the required process, policies and tools are in place.
• Typical duties may include PV system design; design review; site assessment; system energy modelling; energy estimates; technology evaluation and risk assessment; EPC evaluation, selection, and monitoring; detailed system and component modelling; technical report writing; utility interconnection and transmission evaluation; site inspections; contract review of EPC, O&M, and performance guarantees; operations and maintenance review; financial modelling and review; regulatory compliance; construction monitoring; equipment commissioning and testing and travel to client and remote sites
• Deliver 'best-in-class' industry standards technical services;
• Ensure operational excellence by initiating and maintaining policies and procedures;
• Completion of full scope projects due diligence activities and reports as required including liaison with both peers and client’s advisors to ensure timely delivery of services in line with company procedures;
• Assist Bluefield’s Group relevant functions with the negotiation and management of the EPC and O&M contracts to review drawings and technical documentation; oversee project design and execution including key risks and their resolution; ensure works are completed in accordance with contract terms, planning requirements, engineering standards and health & safety requirements; evaluation of the construction and commissioning process through regular site visits; attending meetings with the EPC contractor and their sub-contractors as required.
• Responsible for business development activities, identifying opportunities in the market maintaining the required network of contacts, and providing key market intelligence to help develop services according to the industry needs
• Display a proactive business leadership capability and have experience and proven competence as a senior manager that can successfully manage a business unit, profit and loss and lead a team of people

Interactions within Bluefield

• Effective liaison with other Bluefield Group teams to ensure the most efficient hand over and technical support is provided when required
• Communicate as required with staff in all areas of the group

Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

To excel in this role, you will have: 
• 7+ years’ experience in an engineering firm or technical advisory firm  
• Demonstrated track record of superior academic and work performance 
• Solid knowledge of solar PV projects, equipment and sensors including modules, inverters, trackers, BoP, solar stations and other components of the plant
• Experience in project acceptance tests and commissioning procedures (Equipment test data review)
• Familiarity with PVsyst as well as other energy simulation software
• Knowledge of IEC and other relevant standards in the solar and electric industry
• Familiar with typical equipment for site inspections (thermographic cameras, I-V curve tracers)
• Project management skills and desired previous experience or certification (PMI)
• Track record in client facing and client management role 
• Team player able to collaborate, influence and build relationships across multidisciplinary teams at all levels in the organisation 
• Experience in line managing and mentoring of team members 
• Demonstrated commitment to outstanding results
• Willing to travel up to 30% of the time, domestic and international (when required)
