Our Remediation team are looking for an enthusiastic Environmental Engineering Consultant to focus on contaminated land and remediation projects across the Midlands and North of England. As an integral member of the Environmental Liability Solutions (ELS) team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of remediation projects. You will provide support in the delivery of framework services to clients in the Oil & Gas industry, focusing on the safe delivery of onsite projects, complying with CDM2015.

Nationally our team is one of the largest in the UK and provides one-stop access to a variety of environmental and contracting services. The Manchester and Birmingham offices have an established track record of successfully delivering land contamination assessments and remediation works throughout the country. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background in land contamination assessment, and ground investigation contracting that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

The team provides services ranging from desk studies, site investigation, risk assessment, remediation (strategy development, design, implementation and validation), decommissioning, site and ground investigation, monitoring and close-out on a wide range of contracts.

Job Duties:

This role is within the team providing project management support, including work on contaminated land assessments, desktop and site based assessments, and remediation projects; as well as ensuring client satisfaction through implementation of projects. The successful person will be expected to take on project management tasks including making the necessary arrangements beforehand for any fieldwork, production of reporting deliverables, assisting in setting budgets and management of project fees and expenditure.

Further responsibilities include:

  • To ensure that health and safety standards are applied and delivered against, we hold health and safety at the core of everything we do.

  • To work within a team, undertaking desk studies, site investigations, laboratory procurement for environmental analysis, data analysis, factual and interpretive report writing.

  • To assist in developing proposals for ground investigations and remediation projects.

  • To coordinate field staff and subcontractors undertaking ground investigation and remediation projects including H&S, technical delivery, permitting and contracts management.

  • To coordinate with laboratories to secure appropriate analysis and in a timetable consistent with project requirements.

  • To review, compile and interpret field and analytical data into accurate and comprehensive conceptual site models.

  • To learn the AECOM quality management system and ensure its effective implementation by the team for all projects and proposals.

  • To manage the financial delivery of projects and compliance with AECOM management procedures.

  • Within the ELS team, you will be involved in projects supporting a range of objectives including planning and development, compliance and permitting, due diligence and remediation offing a wide range of experience and wide ranging opportunities for progression in the future to successful candidates.

Specific Skills Required :

For this role you will ideally hold a strong undergraduate degree in an environmental, science or engineering based subject. Relevant work or voluntary experience would be highly desirable. We are particularly looking for candidates with the following skills:

Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of contaminated land assessment with experience in development and assessment of a CSM, collecting soil and groundwater data and samples, supervising subcontractors in intrusive ground investigations and remediation projects.

  • An ability to see, plan and fully understand the full cycle of a remediation project from the initial phase

  • Commercial awareness - planning & programming skills, change management and contract administration.

  • Good knowledge of CDM regulations and site management. SMSTS a preference.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.

Skills:

  • Strong research and report writing (including web based research).

  • Strong numeracy skills.

  • Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English); fluency in other languages an advantage.

  • Strong quality and time management.

  • Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.

  • Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.

  • Willingness and ability to learn new tasks.

  • Ability to perform well in a team environment.

  • Flexible and hard working.

Within the ELS team, you will be involved in projects supporting a range of objectives including planning and development, compliance and permitting, due diligence and remediation offing a wide range of experience and wide ranging opportunities for progression in the future to successful candidates.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant post-graduate experience

  • Experience of working in a corporate environment (within or outside of environmental consultancy)

  • Knowledge:

  • Understanding of field sampling investigation and data review.

  • Good understanding of contaminated land assessment;

  • Previous hands on experience within field investigation, including site management, drilling supervision, collection of groundwater and ground gas samples, as well as field data.

  • Previous experience of project and contract management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant BSc degree (MSc degree preferred) in Geology / Hydrogeology / Contaminated Land / Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science
