In this contractual role, you'll use commercial acumen and knowledge of the waste industry to help realise the optimum performance of our major waste contracts. Your ability on contractual negotiations will ensure that our Waste Management delivery unit will continue to provide effective and efficient services that will help both commissioning new service contracts, as well as maintaining existing waste contracts.

About us

The Waste Management team, made up Waste Commissioning, Waste Contracts and Waste Promotion Officers, is well respected within the Transport, Economy & Environment service at Buckinghamshire County Council. We were nominated and shortlisted for Team of the Year 2018 at BCC’s Workplace Heroes earlier this year. The work we do is fast paced and dynamic, but we are also a supportive and collaborative team.

About the role

In this role you’ll be required to investigate and deliver the best commercial benefit to the Waste Management Delivery Unit by maximising the potential value that exists across the range of BCC contracts. A key area of focus will be around the current high profile Energy from Waste contract, but the role will also cover all aspects of the Waste Management Delivery Unit such as the bio-waste and household recycling centre contracts. You’ll provide expert waste management advice to a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally, for example colleagues, customers, councillors and senior officers.

 About you

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you’ll have a strong background in a waste contract management and or commissioning / procurement environment, together with a proven ability to contribute to service planning, improvements, and development activity.

An excellent communicator, you will be able to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, communicating changes in policy and strategies, as well as provide expert advice, guidance, and support on complex issues.

With experience of project management, you will demonstrate initiative and the ability to manage complex plans, prioritise and co-ordinate resources to deliver priorities within time constraints.

Please also note that access to your own vehicle is an essential requirement for the role as there will be a need to travel across the county to various sites.
