The job covers a broad range of water resources activities including water resource evaluation and development; specialist input to impact assessment of major infrastructure schemes including water, transport, power, residential and industrial development, mines and tunnels; risk assessments; hydro-ecological assessment and Water Framework Directive assessment; water quality and catchment studies; applied engineering advice for major infrastructure schemes including SuDS, drainage, permitting and pollution prevention; development and implementation of water monitoring programmes.

Projects are UK based and international for a range of clients including contractors and water companies.

This is your opportunity to work alongside a team of water resources specialists on a variety of projects for a range of different clients in different sectors.

We are looking for scientists or engineers with a relevant degree and an MSc in hydrogeology or related subject to be based in Manchester and support our specialist Groundwater and Water Resources team. The team is part of the Environment and Ground Engineering group in AECOM.

Job Duties:

The water resources scientist/engineer will assist in delivery of consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget. Duties will include:

  • Preparation of water resource assessments;

  • Environmental Impact Assessments and Risk Assessments;

  • Water Framework Directive, hydro-ecology and catchment based assessments;

  • Drainage and seepage analysis;

  • Application and development of models and data processing tools to assist with interpretation;

  • Presenting information in reports and working with a team of other specialists;

  • Mentoring others and working across multi-disciplinary teams;

  • Taking responsibility for project finances and customers;

  • Supporting bidding and taking an active role in business development;

  • A flexible and adaptable ‘can do’ attitude will be required to meet the challenge of a range of projects.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Current driving licence essential.

  • Member of a relevant professional body.

  • Report writing with attention to detail.

Minimum Requirements

  • The successful applicant will have relevant water resources experience and a strong knowledge of UK/EC environmental legislation. Excellent report writing skills and numeracy skills are critical to this post.

  • We are seeking an individual who is pro-active, re-active and adaptable and able to operate both individually and as part of a project team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • You will have a relevant degree and an MSc in water resources, hydrogeology or other relevant subject. The successful individual should have a proven technical ability in water resources; be able to interpret and develop conceptual models and present information in reports; and will be a key member of our team, taking on project management responsibility for a number of projects, mentoring junior staff, report writing and contributing to the growth of the group through direct client contact and bidding.
