The Company

Established for 60 years, our client is an engineering consultancy with a presence in 125 countries worldwide, employing 3000 professionals and generating a turnover of over 360M Euros.  They deliver client focused solutions which incorporate service lines from architectural, environmental through to engineering and have an established client footprint in a number of sectors including infrastructure, water and manufacturing through to nuclear.

The UK arm operates with a dynamic team numbering 100 professional spread across 6 offices.  They specialise in delivering engineering and environmental solutions into the commercial development, infrastructure and energy client base.

Having earned numerous awards for quality of work and also working environment, they are unique in respect that they are 100% wholly owned by their staff, with share ownership distributed relatively equally throughout their shareholders, nearly 30% of the staff are partners and the average age of acceptance into partnership is in the mid 30’s.  In addition to plans to double the number of staff they employ globally within the next 4 years, our client has acquired a number of key case study projects within the UK and is planning substantial growth within the UK region.

An opportunity has arisen for a senior civil engineer to take a lead engineering position within the UK, to head a new team which is forecast to grow substantially within the next few years.  Currently contributing towards less than a third in UK company revenues, the infrastructure growth is also forecast to double within the next 2 years, with clients including HS2, Highways England already secured.

The Role

This is a key position, reporting to the MD for the UK, and working from the offices in Birmingham, Manchester or Scotland, a Lead Engineer is required to head up and lead the civil engineering team within the infrastructure sector.

Primary responsibilities would include delivery of civil engineering designs to an established client base typically within infrastructure sector, which is predominantly roads / highways and some rail.

There would also be a requirement to be a technical lead for the civil engineering department, spread across a number of offices, however this number is expected to grow given the workload forecasts for growth within the division.   Technical mentoring, staff development and administration of the design software, together with proofing of the teams final designs prior to submission to clients would be a requirement of the role.

It is envisaged that there would be an immediate responsibility to identify and recruit new members of the team to grow the division and to support the MD with technical input with regard to client tendering.

Projects are largely UK based so travel within the UK would be required, but there would also be an opportunity to get involved with some interesting international projects in conjunction with the larger group.

In return, there would be a competitive package put together which incorporates flexi-time working from an office which has a pleasant working environment.

The Individual

Likely based within a striking distance of one of the offices mentioned, the successful individual would have;

A track record of civil engineering design into roads/rail infrastructure sector within the UK

Have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and work well as part of a team

Applications are welcomed from individuals with a positive attitude who would welcome being a part of a unique organisation who are just about to undergo significant expansion.

Our client has a relaxed culture which encourages and supports staff to develop themselves and opportunities.
