Energy & Carbon Regulation Team

We are one of Europe’s leading consultancies supporting the UK Government, the European Commission, international governments and international bodies such as the Asian Development Bank and World Bank in the development, implementation and appraisal of climate change policy.

You will work within a team that wins and delivers a wide range of projects covering policy option development, design, impact assessment, evaluation and carries out a wide range of capacity building and stakeholder engagement activities including workshop delivery and guidance production. The team works across many energy and climate change disciplines, which include carbon pricing policies including: emission trading, carbon crediting and carbon taxes; energy efficiency policies and instruments including white certificates, energy management standard, product standards and non-market approaches; renewable policies including portfolio standards and feed-in tariff mechanisms.

Purpose

We have an opportunity for an Intern to support the delivery of an exciting project for the European Commission within our Energy & Carbon Regulation team. The project provides support to the European Commission in the assessment of the 28 EU Member States integrated national energy and climate plans.

In 2016, the European Commission proposed a Regulation on the Governance of the Energy Union. The Regulation brings together policies and reporting obligations across energy, climate and other related policy areas to meet the EU’ 2030 energy and climate targets. You will support the team in the assessment of the Member States’ draft plans for comprehensiveness and conformity, to ensure that they meet the requirements of the proposed Regulation.

Key Accountabilities

The specific tasks will be dependent on your level of experience but are likely to include data collection and input using Excel, results analysis, report writing and completing tasks to time and costs. You will also work alongside other expert consultants to incorporate your contribution into wider project outputs.

Key Competencies and Experience

* A Bachelor’s degree (2.1 or above)
* A previous specialism in energy and climate change is not required, but a strong interest in (EU) energy and climate policy is essential.
* Computer literacy – especially in MS Excel and Word.
* Fluency in English is essential, fluency in other EU languages (in particular: Finnish, Estonian, French, Dutch, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Italian) is desirable but not required.
