AECOM is seeking an Associate Process and Data Manager to support the busy Central England ecology team in the delivery of major infrastructure projects. In brief we are looking to review, manage, map and refine data management processes and implement new technologies. We are focused on data quality and continual improvement and hence we are looking for an individual to drive this forward, initially within specific projects and later across the whole UK&I business. .

The role will be based in Birmingham, with the opportunity longer-term to work across the UK and Ireland on high profile, challenging and innovative projects. The Birmingham ecology office (one of three AECOM offices in Birmingham) is a dynamic lively environment with a large team comprising graduate environmentalists and ecologists, senior ecologists, land access coordinators and project managers.

The ideal candidate will have experience of managing large complex datasets through Excel and databases such as Access, gained within an engineering consultancy or through academic experience. They will have developed expertise with process mapping, quality assurance principles and systems, and implementation of data collection and assurance systems. Experience of project and data management on large infrastructure projects would be highly beneficial. The individual will excel in client liaison and communicating complex issues in a manner which can be easily understood by those from different technical backgrounds.

The ideal person will be highly motivated, pro-active, focused and organized, with an eye for detail and good communication skills. They will also ideally have a keen interest in wildlife and conservation and may have relevant voluntary or academic experience. The role would suit a career-changer, interested in developing a career in management of large scale ecology projects by undertaking field surveys and gaining a firm understanding of associated timing and resourcing considerations. This will create added value through a deeper understanding of the wider Ecology business.

Job Duties:

  • Process mapping, analysis and improvement (efficiency, safety, quality)- areas to include: scheduling, survey data capture and processing including assurance, land access, commercial management regarding invoicing and work orders, and client progress reporting through P6 Prima Vera;

  • Facilitate and inform the design and implementation of innovative solutions (e.g. databases, web-based portals and spatial data collection applications) to support our projects and business;

  • Build in data protection to address GDPR and personal information protection requirements;

  • Management of teams or work areas within the larger project team as required (e.g. technical ecology work) to deliver quality improvement;

  • Attendance at team meetings and client meetings.

Specific Skills Required:

  • IT skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, databases)

  • Self-starter, pro-active and motivated

  • Detail oriented and results-driven. Committed to delivering complex tasks on time and on budget. Experienced in pre-empting potential programme risks, identifying relevant mitigation measures and implementing these in a timely manner;

  • Ability to remain focused and productive through sustained periods of high pressure and workload;

  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills

  • Ability to predict and anticipate future database constraints such that AECOM remains well positioned to deliver large scale projects;

Minimum Requirements

  • A background in engineering consultancy and preferably experience in working on large infrastructure projects would be preferable. Significant process management and team management experience would be advantageous. An interest in British wildlife and the natural environment is optional but would add real value.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, IT, engineering or environmental sciences.
