We are seeking to appoint a Technical Director to lead our existing Minerals and Waste Planning & Environment team based in Chesterfield

Job Responsibilities:

You will lead our existing Minerals and Waste Planning & Environment team based in Chesterfield. Your role will be to mentor staff, ensure that planning, EIA and related outputs are produced to a high quality, be a main point of contact with clients, and be responsible for winning new and repeat commissions.

You will be involved in the management and production of a wide variety of planning and environmental consultancy services in relation to minerals and waste management developments. This includes the preparation of planning applications, negotiation of conditions/ agreements, EIA and environmental appraisals, assessment of alternatives, development plan representations, enforcement work, mineral safeguarding, stakeholder consultations, public exhibitions and information, site selection, appraisal and promotion, development feasibility, design and appeals.

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the job responsibilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Deliver, direct/ manage and coordinate the technical planning and environmental outputs as referred to above;

  • Liaise with clients, internal specialist environmental and design teams and, where necessary, sub-contractors;

  • Work in partnership with other members of the Environment and Planning team (both within the home office and across the UK), delegating activities to staff as applicable;

  • Staff mentoring and staff management duties;

  • Monitor and manage project budgets; and

  • Identify and pursue business development initiatives and manage the preparation of technical and fee proposals.

Minimum Requirements

  • You will have recent and comprehensive experience in minerals and waste management planning and EIA.

  • The ideal candidate will be a chartered planner who has specialised in minerals and waste management with extensive planning and EIA experience, with around 15 years of post-qualification experience, including work in either industry or consultancy (or both). You will need to be computer literate and have excellent report writing and oral communication skills, commercial awareness, and established client contacts within the industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant discipline

  • Relevant post-graduate degree an advantage

  • Appropriate professional membership – MRTPI as a minimum
