AECOM is seeking to hire an Ecologist into our South East team to help deliver ecological consultancy and advisory services as part of our established, friendly and highly skilled ecology team.

Our South East offices are in Basingstoke, London Aldgate or Croydon and we are flexible to have the successful candidate working in any of these locations.

As we continue to expand our team we are seeking new team members to assist in the organisation, co-ordination and planning of our work. As part of this role there will also be the opportunity to gain experienced in undertaking ecological surveys and related technical reporting.

The network of ecologists across AECOMs south-east England offices has established a good, friendly dynamic with a collaborative spirit. The offices all include a range of other teams in addition to the ecologists and there is therefore a strong interdisciplinary element to the team with a great deal of across-team interaction with considerable freedom to grow and develop your career.

Job Duties:

The job will entail:

  • Working within the ecology team on a variety of tasks as project require, potentially including co-ordination of survey scheduling, land access and data processing;

  • Working to develop field survey skills through assisting in undertaking a range of habitat and species surveys. This may include some working occasional longer hours and/or r unsociable hours, and to work away from home on occasions.

  • Contributing to desk studies and literature reviews;

  • Contributing to survey and assessment reports including ecology inputs to BREEAM assessments;

  • Undertaking other tasks which add value to the development of the ecology team or support wider environmental business goals, as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Recognised degree in a biological, science or related discipline

  • Transferable skills including use of excel, word, powerpoint;

  • An ability to write clearly with good grammar and spelling;

  • Some previous experience of ecology surveys;

  • Proactive and careful approach to Health and Safety;

  • Team player with a positive attitude, and ability to build relationships with other team members and disciples

  • Professional, organised and able to demonstrate a thorough approach to work and an attention to detail to get things right first time;

  • Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including occasional longer/and or unsociable hours, and to work away from home on occasions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc in a biological, science or related discipline.

  • Member CIEEM or similar professional body; or eligible to qualify for this status Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
