In joining AECOM’s heritage team you will be working alongside heritage professionals with a wealth of experience working on schemes across the UK and further afield. Our team is drawn from people with varying backgrounds; in archaeology, conservation management, planning, and the public sector. We are looking for an individual who can join our diverse team and bring their own distinctive approach to the historic environment. The candidate will deliver expert advice on the historic built environment, providing practical advice on urban design, master planning and adaptation in line with AECOM’s vision. The candidate will also be provided with the opportunity to collaborate on high profile projects as part of multidisciplinary design and engineering teams and will be expected to contribute to small and large scale projects including listed building consent applications, writing heritage statements and producing chapters which contribute to EIA. As such we are looking for a positive and proactive individual with a sound knowledge base and understanding of the planning framework and heritage significance, and with proven experience in working within the heritage industry, bringing with them the ability to work independently and as part of our growing team.

Job Duties:

  • As a senior member of the team you will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • You will be expected to play a key role in projects, providing expert advice on the historic built environment;

  • You will be expected to have the confidence to work independently on projects, while supporting colleagues on larger schemes

  • You will be expected to respond to urban design and planning concepts, building upon your existing knowledge

  • You will be expected to provide expert advice on change within the historic environment, including the adaptation of historic buildings

You will have some knowledge of project management and be able to work to budgets and timetables to achieve project goals

Specific Skills Required:

  • a full clean British driving license;

  • excellent communication skills;

  • good working knowledge of the planning system;

  • knowledge of practical solutions in the adaptation of historic buildings;

  • proven experience in the identification of heritage significance;

  • ability to work as part of a team;

  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, an appropriate professional institution including the Institute of Historic Building Conservation; RTPI and/ or Chartered Institute of Field Archaeologists.

Minimum Requirements

  • You will have proven experience in:

  • providing practical advice on change within the historic environment;

  • playing an active role in the design process;

  • understanding of current and emerging planning policy and guidance;

  • assessing the significance of heritage assets and in the characterisation of the historic environment

  • in working as part of large, multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • a degree level qualification in a relevant discipline;

  • membership of an appropriate professional body, or demonstrable equivalent level of experience;

  • relevant experience working within the historic built environment;
