The Senior Ecologist will deliver ecological consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.

Job Duties

  • Working as part of the existing network of AECOM ecologists;

  • Leading on winning a wide range of ecological work;

  • Supporting internal clients with delivering the ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects;

  • Working independently, or with other ecologists and professionals, in the planning, delivery and management of protected species and habitat surveys; analysis and evaluation of results, impacts assessments, and the design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies including European Protected Species licence applications within budgets and deadlines;

  • Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of ecological and Environmental Impact Assessment projects;

  • Building and maintaining both internal and external client relationships, including providing urgent ecological response and / or advice in person, by email or over the phone;

  • Communicating effectively with their line manager, project managers, clients, project teams and other members of the ecology team, within projects and with clients by telephone, e-mail, letters and reports;

  • Developing and promoting best practice and innovation across the ecology business;

  • Compliance with internal business management procedures, including in relation to health and safety and technical quality of all advice and outputs; and ddevelopment of the ecology team or support wider environmental business goals, as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical and professional proficiency with a demonstrable history of successfully working in ecology consultancy including through client liaison, within multi-disciplinary teams and completion of projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree classification 2:1 or equivalent or above

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject

  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution (or evidence of progress towards same)

  • Proven experience of habitat, and protected species surveys

  • Past or current holder of a protected species licence(s), such as bats / badger / otter (or exposure to same)

  • Excellent field skills and a keen interest and understanding of Irish wildlife

  • Previous work experience in the ecology sector within a professional consultancy (or relevant NGO or academic experience if applicable)

  • Working knowledge of Irish law relating to ecology and a understanding of the relevant planning systems

  • Ability to record data efficiently and methodically

  • Excellent communication and report writing skills with computer skills in MSWord, MS Excel

  • A hard working and highly motivated individual

  • Client focused with good interpersonal skills and team approach

  • Willing and able to visit other locations on company business (if necessary)

  • Able to demonstrate a commitment to continued education and improvement through participating in our approved training schemes

  • Full Driving Licence

  • Experience with a GIS package such as Arc GIS

Desirable

  • Chartered status (CEnv or CEcol)

  • Evidence of published work in the ecology field

  • Evidence of having provided professional training or lecturing
