AECOM is looking for an experienced hydromorphologist to join our established hydromorphology/ fluvial geomorphology team in the UK. Based in either Altrincham, Basingstoke or Birmingham, you would work under the Hydromorphology Team Leader to apply your knowledge of hydromorphology, and in particular hydrological and sediment modelling, to help guide the work undertaken by this growing team; as such you will need to be a proficient modeller. You would work with a range of associated disciplines to cement and grow our position as one of the premier hydromorphology teams in the UK.

Minimum Requirements


  • Extensive experience in implementing 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling (including ISIS and TuFlow) for fluvial studies including model build and quality assurance, troubleshooting, baseline and scenario modelling etc.;

  • Experience in sediment transport modelling for fluvial studies;

  • Extensive experience in the interpretation of model results for design functionality/sustainability, erosion and deposition dynamics, flood risk etc.;

  • Excellent knowledge and practice of the following modelling software: Flood Modeller/ISIS, TUFLOW;

  • Proficiency in the use of the following spatial software: ArcGIS and/or QGIS, Map Info;

  • Strong experience supervising, assisting and teaching junior modellers;

  • Extensive experience writing and reviewing technical reports;

  • Strong experience communicating modelling issues and results to technical and non-technical audiences;

  • Good knowledge of hydromorphology, including experience of a range of river types;

  • Experience of a range of projects including river restoration, NFM, weir removal, and infrastructure-related hydromorphological assessment and design;

  • Sound knowledge of sediment transport processes;

  • Experience of high gradient and low gradient systems and coarse and fine sediment dynamics;


  • Knowledge and practice of the following modelling software: HEC-RAS, Infoworks ICM.

  • Understanding of hydrology principles and experience with hydrological calculations (Flood Estimation Handbook techniques, flow duration curves etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • High quality degree in a relevant field, and ideally a Masters/PhD; and

  • Membership of a related professional institute, ideally with chartered status.
