Sustainability Data Analyst

Purpose and Scope

To coordinate all aspects of the internal and external sustainability reporting requirements in line with M J Mapp’s broader approach to the topic. Key focus on energy and carbon management but with a growing focus on social impact.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

- Maintenance of environmental data held within on and off line reporting systems.
- Query management related to environmental data.
- Liaison with external stakeholders, including utilities bureau provider, client appointed consultants, and other key service providers.
- Coordination of utilities data managed by bureau provider
- Analysis and preparation of environmental data for use in periodic performance reports, or support others in the business to develop the content of such reports.
- Management of key compliance obligations related to energy and carbon, including SECR, MEES, and Heat Networks Regulations.
- Management of data to meet voluntary standards including GRESB and UN PRI.
- Work with other members in the team to develop Environmental Improvement Plans tailored to each building and in line with client and EMS requirements.
- Work with the wider property teams to ensure sustainability initiatives are being progressed.
- Produce and maintain a range of communications to meet the needs of all identified interested parties.
- Deliver and/or prepare training and information resources to raise competence and awareness.
- Generation and analysis of specific reports on an ad-hoc basis on request.
- Auditing of sites in accordance with the MJM EMS, certified to ISO 14001:2015
- Occasional requirement to travel to visit managed properties and Regional Offices.
- Preparation of case studies, blog pieces, and social media content.
- Wider data analytic support to business as part of Data Warehouse project

Key Performance Measures

- Availability of quarterly benchmark reports or data by the deadlines set by clients or their consultants.
- Availability of data for all properties available each quarter to meet ad-hoc requests for reporting
- Other client requirements met by specified deadlines.
- Compliance deadlines met in line with client requirements.
- Proactive support to wider team to raise awareness, and increase integration of sustainability into property management activities.

Skills and Competencies

- Broad knowledge of environmental management and how it relates to business and industry.
- Broad knowledge of utilities management and bureau services provision.
- Awareness of rising prominence of social responsibility, social value, and social impact reporting.
- Working knowledge of reporting requirements including SECR and GRESB.
- Ability to link issues around environmental management to the wider sustainability agenda.
- Ability to analyse and manipulate data to illustrate building environmental performance, and opportunities for improvement requiring investigation.
- IT literate with experience of working with both Microsoft and Google software.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI.
- Working knowledge of a range of carbon reporting platforms such as SIERA and Carbon Desktop.
- Ability to self motivate and work on own initiative.
- Able to prioritise schedule and workload while maintaining flexibility to deal with reactive issues.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all organisational levels.
- Strong written skills, able to convey complex information in an accessible way.
- A creative flair for displaying data to tell a meaningful story to specialist and non specialist audiences.
- Able to build and develop relationships with other employees of M J Mapp and with external suppliers, contractors, and consultants.

Experience and CIPD

- Experience of managing large amounts of environmental data.
- Experience of producing reports for a range of stakeholder audiences.
- Experience of working with utilities and waste brokers, suppliers, and energy managers.
- Experience of the application of compliance obligations in a commercial context.
- Experience of working in the Real Estate or Facilities Management sector
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001
- A Degree in a related discipline or evidence of comparable career experience
