We are looking for a Senior Town Planner to join our growing team of infrastructure town planning consultants in the North of England (offices in Leeds and York). As a Senior in our team, you will have the opportunity to work on feasibility work through to delivery of major infrastructure consents across a range of sectors. The work will include assisting in the preparation of Development Consent Orders, Transport and Works Act Orders and planning applications, undertaking site visits, report writing and working collaboratively across our network of offices with architects, engineers, environmental specialists, economists and other related professionals to develop award winning integrated infrastructure projects.

  • Supporting the management and successful delivery of major infrastructure projects, including procedures under the Planning Act 2008 and the Transport and Works Act 1992.

  • The management and successful delivery of planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, including coordinating multi-disciplinary teams across various project types.

  • Providing planning advice to colleagues and clients including the application of permitted development rights.

  • Monitoring and managing project budgets and programmes.

  • Liaising with the Environmental Impact Assessment team.

  • Contribution to the preparation of successful commercial tenders.

  • Assisting with project management and implementing quality and health and safety principles.

  • Carrying out planning research and analysis and assist with the identification of planning risk.

  • Participating in internal and external meetings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience of promoting development under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990.

  • Relevant environmental planning experience, preferably within the private sector.

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to write clearly and concisely.

  • Able to work on own initiative and under pressure.

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Project.

  • Sound knowledge of UK planning policy and legislation and, preferably a working knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.

  • Client focused with good interpersonal skills and collaborative working approach with a high level of commitment to quality.

  • Full current driving licence.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • The Development Consent Order regime under the Planning Act 2008.

  • The Transport and Works Act 1992 consenting regime.

  • Working in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams on highways or rail infrastructure projects.

  • Identifying, evaluating and managing planning risk.

  • Identifying and evaluating alternatives.

  • Management of Environmental Impact Assessment.

  • Preparation of successful commercial tenders.

  • Multi-disciplinary consultancy.

  • Project management.

Note – this role will not suit candidates who have a preference for master-planning / urban design or architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional town planning organisation.
