Practice area within Ricardo Energy & Environment

These positions will be based within our Environmental Policy team within the Policy, Strategy & Economics practice, which includes highly experienced professionals specialising in techno-economic, environmental policy and management consultancy services, serving policymakers across multiple sectors, institutions and locations.

The role

We have an opportunity for two Analyst Consultants to join our Environmental Policy Team to support a range of exciting and innovative environmental policy projects. Ideally this would be based in our London team, but could also be considered in our Manchester or Madrid offices. Working in international, multi-disciplinary teams, you will have the capacity to work flexibly across a range of thematic areas and will collaborate closely with technical experts in diverse teams across the business and with our partner organisations. You will provide policy development and implementation analysis; evaluate existing policy and technical measures; support cost-benefit analyses and carry out stakeholder consultation. These roles will provide the perfect first step into a consultancy career in an exciting and rapidly changing sector.

As an Analyst Consultant, you will support the delivery of technical projects, managing your time across several projects and business areas. You will be responsible for the delivery of tasks assigned to you, meeting time, cost and quality requirements, to ensure client satisfaction. From day one, you'll be part of a team supporting senior colleagues in delivering a portfolio of high-profile projects to clients. Specific tasks are likely to include supporting the preparation of proposals to win new contracts, through researching and analysing information and data, to contributing to reports that are delivered to clients. The role will support a diverse range of areas including air quality and emissions, industrial pollution control, water, climate change adaptation and mitigation, energy, waste and resource efficiency, agriculture and chemicals management.

Person specification

Successful candidates will have the following skills and characteristics:

Essential:

* Educated to Masters degree level. Studies could be a combination of economics, engineering/science and/or environment.
* An understanding of European and/or international environmental policy issues, gained during studies or work experience.
* A professional and diligent approach: accurate and attentive to detail
* Fluency in written and spoken English
* Effective oral and written communication, including concise and precise report writing
* Strong PC literacy - especially in MS Excel and MS Word
* Be flexible, proactive, resilient and enthusiastic
* Problem-solving skills and creative thinking
* Be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative, as well as operate effectively as part of a team

Desirable:

* Fluency in other European languages
* Experience in a consultancy or in a customer-facing commercial environment. We welcome applications from recent graduates but preference will be given to those with relevant work experience in environmental consultancy, Government, or academic research/think-tanks.
* Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following-
* Policy cycle (ex-ante impact assessment of policies and regulations, policy development and implementation, ex-post evaluation of policies and programmes)
* Tools and methods: survey design and execution, market analyses, cost-benefit analysis, data collection, validation and analysis, stakeholder consultation.
