Co-ordination of multidisciplinary teams to deliver EIA services to the power and transmission sectors.

Due to continued success in the power sector, AECOM have opportunities for Senior or Principal EIA consultants to join our team across the UK. You will be joining an established Environment and Planning team where you will a play key role in the management and delivery of projects including electricity transmission and interconnectors, renewables (onshore/offshore wind, solar and hydro power) as well as electricity storage. Our clients range from multi-national utilities to niche developers and include the likes of National Grid and Scottish Power Energy Networks.

The role will involve provision of environmental inputs throughout the development of projects - from due diligence, feasibility and routeing studies or option appraisals, to EIA and preparation of consent applications, as well as post planning and pre-construction/construction phase work. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in EIA, preferably in the power sector. You should have a background in environmental sciences or planning and be conversant with EIA and planning regulations and procedures. Experience of a range of consenting regimes e.g. Town and Country Planning Act, Electricity Act and/or the Planning Act would be advantageous.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities would include:

  • Management and coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams;

  • Management and monitoring of budgets and programmes;

  • Production of EIA Reports or Environmental Statements and other specialist reports;

  • Management of consent applications;

  • Business development with new and existing clients;

  • Tender and proposal preparation; and

  • Mentoring of junior staff.

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.

  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.

  • Plans and organizes project studies.

  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.

  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.

  • May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience managing and coordinating environmental studies and EIAs for power sector projects.

  • An excellent understanding of EIA processes (including screening and scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation;

  • Excellent report writing, technical reviewing and communication skills – all with a keen attention to detail;

  • Excellent project management skills, including experience of programming, risk management, change control and budget/ financial management;

  • The ability to work as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable; and

  • Full driving licence and a willingness to travel within the UK, as well as internationally, according to project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience commensurate with specified job responsibilities e.g. appropriate qualifications to BSc or MSc level and demonstrable track record in EIA.
