Our Manchester/ Leeds based Environmental Liability Solutions team is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Geo-Environmental Field Technician to join us in our work on contaminated land and remediation projects. In joining us you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of geo-environmental assessments including petroleum, chemicals, development and major infrastructure sites in the North West but also more widely across the UK. We are now looking for someone who is proactive in their approach to work; and who wants to share in our enthusiasm and determination to support our important client-base. The successful applicant will enjoy spending the majority of their time in the field on sites across the UK dependent upon project requirements.

General/ Technical :

  • Working to AECOM and client specific health, safety and environmental standards.

  • Predominantly field based on a range of contaminated land sites UK wide.

  • Must have an appetite to be field based willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be flexible and self-motivated.

  • Ability to work to documented field procedures and recognise instrumentation or QA/QC issues in the field.

  • Gathers data from soil, groundwater, ground gas and soil vapour sampling to UK best practice standards on a range of contaminated land sites to be used in the preparation of scientific reports; compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others.

  • Field work preparation and planning including:

  • Completing health and safety documentation and undertaking dynamic risk assessment

  • Organising equipment and consumables for field based tasks in accordance with best practice

  • Familiarity with a range of groundwater sampling techniques including low flow techniques and use of a range of in-situ testing equipment

  • Data collation of field results

  • The accurate management and assimilation of environmental data on both paper and database systems

  • Reporting of results for use by Project Manager

  • Custodian of in-house equipment (e.g. checking condition, operability, maintaining calibration records, conducting equipment swap-outs).

  • Supporting on-site remedial system operation and maintenance tasks.

  • A enthusiasm to learn and develop

Project Management :

  • Responsible for quality control of tasks undertaken by themselves or others in their management.

  • Problem solving

  • Self-motivated

  • Able to work on own initiative

  • Flexible

  • Good organisational skills

  • Capable of prioritising own workload based on rapidly changing scenarios.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in a similar technician role.

  • CSCS and SMSTS certification desirable

  • First Aid Training desirable

  • Full clean driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one Science A Level Grade C+ / BTEC in an environmental science discipline desirable but not essential depending on experience
