Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to help turn Edinburgh into Scotland's first 'Swift City', and its residents into swift advocates!

Edinburgh Swift City Project Officer
Reference number: A5200220
Location: Edinburgh
Salary starting at: £19,602 to £21,236 Per Annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: Fixed Term for 12 Months

This exciting role will involve recruiting and training volunteers to establish where swifts are currently nesting across Edinburgh; encouraging schools and local communities to develop 'swift streets' by installing swift nest boxes on public and private buildings, and working with local developers to ensure that swift bricks are incorporated into new buildings in the city.

You will organise and deliver city-wide public engagement events and commission artwork to raise awareness of the plight of these wonderful birds. Working with licenced swift-ringing specialists you will help fit satellite geolocation tags to a number of swifts to monitor, for the first time, their journey from Edinburgh to their overwintering grounds in Africa. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in volunteer management and data management skills as part of this project.

You will be enthusiastic, bold and outward facing with excellent communication skills to act as a champion for this amazing species. You will have good natural history knowledge and a passion for engaging people in conservation.

Our client is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to the appropriate safeguarding checks upon appointment.
