Energy & Climate Project Officer


This is an exciting new opportunity to help the new Buckinghamshire Council address climate change and energy challenges in the area. Focusing on the development and delivery of energy and climate projects, the role is central to our work to reduce carbon emissions and deliver energy infrastructure required to support clean growth.

About us

The Energy & Resources team provides the energy and carbon management function for the Council and are central to our response to climate change. This role will have a prominent role in delivering high profile projects including the delivery of new electricity infrastructure for Aylesbury Garden Town.

About the role

Buckinghamshire Council has been awarded - 170m as part of the Government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) Forward Funding programme; - 18m of this is allocated to improving the electricity infrastructure serving Aylesbury Garden Town. A key feature of this project is the recycling of the investment, back to the Council over time – enabling us to reinvest in future energy infrastructure. The delivery of this project is one of the key projects for the Energy & Climate Project Officer.

This role will also support the development of the Council’s Climate Change Strategy and will subsequently support the delivery of projects and initiatives it identifies.

As a new role in a growing team, this is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the Council’s response to climate change.

The role is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months, however opportunities to extend or make permanent will be explored as the programme of climate change projects is further developed.

Key Accountabilities

* Taking a leading role in the delivery of an - 18m grid reinforcement project, to support the growth of Aylesbury Garden Town.
* Support the development of the Council’s Climate Change Strategy.
* Identify and deliver new opportunities to reduce energy consumption, increase our renewable power generation capacity and reduce carbon emissions,

About you

The Energy & Climate Project Officer will ideally be an experienced project manager with substantial experience in either energy management, climate change or a related sustainability field. An understanding of climate change policies is essential and an understanding of energy systems (in particular electricity distribution) would be valuable. Familiarity with public procurement processes and experience preparing tender specifications and managing budgets is also essential.
