We are the only environmental charity dedicated to improving the rivers and becks that flow through the Aire valley.
Flowing from Malham to the River Ouse at Airmyn, the River Aire runs through an enormously varied landscape. Our river brings creatures like kingfishers, otters, a wide range of fish including Atlantic salmon into the heart of the cities of Leeds and Bradford.
A curlew flying from Malham to Airmyn would travel a mere 58 miles but it takes the river over 90 miles to wind its way through the 228 square miles of the valley through which it flows.Along the River Aire you will find shallow upland and hidden city becks, streams full of life.

What We Do
Here at The Aire River Trust we work to improve our river for people, places and nature. We engage with stakeholders such as the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water to improve our river. Our work focuses on improving fish passage, river clean ups, removing invasive plant species and improving water quality. We deliver environmental education in schools and riverside fun for local people.
The work we do is both special and very varied. A typical week can include anything from building fish passes to supporting local volunteers, clearing litter from the riverbanks or working with schools to educate future generations about the importance of looking after their river.

At the Aire Rivers Trust we’re the only environmental charity dedicated to looking after the Aire and its tributaries. We work to improve our rivers through habitat enhancement, reducing pollution, and improving access and education. We aim to punch above our weight with exciting new projects across the catchment, from the stunning Malham Cove to the hidden Bradford Beck and beyond.
