ABOUT US

Supporting wildlife researchers all over the world.

Biotrack is a company of dedicated biologists with over 30 years of experience in radio tracking and radio tag manufacture.

We pride ourselves on understanding the needs of researchers and communicating in the language of biology rather than electronics.

BACKGROUND

In March 2007 we joined forces with Lotek Wireless Inc.

We have over 30 years experience of radio-tracking and radio tag manufacture. Biotrack arose from practical biological research at Oxford University in the late 1970s and became a business in 1980, following a move by the founder team to Cambridge. The origin and development of Biotrack is rooted in wildlife and conservation research, and Biotrack Ltd. (as it became in 1994) is still run by dedicated biologists who are actively involved in fieldwork. Practical radio-tracking is inseparable from the development and manufacture of high quality radio tags. Research and development are continuous, as shown by the high reliability and increased performance of ever smaller tags during the last few years. Biotrack has grown steadily from the start, attracting new customers through the personal recommendations of researchers who were already customers. In 1995 we moved into attractive buildings on a rural site, which are being expanded along with our on-going technological achievements enhanced by our Lotek relationship.

QUALITY

All telemetry companies know that when radio-tracking tag reliability is the key to a good reputation. Biotrack is no exception, and we take tag reliability extremely seriously. However, radio tag reliability is not the only issue. It is just as important that the tag should not adversely affect the study animal. Our understanding of wildlife biology is crucial in ensuring that our tags have minimal impact on the animal. In the design of radio-tags, we believe that practical experience of radio-tagging and tracking is every bit as important as electronic engineering skills.

Objectives

When we design radio-tags, there are five main objectives:

1. Minimal impact
2. High Reliability
3. Small size
4. Maximum energy efficiency
5. Good value

RESEARCH

A major strength of Biotrack is its direct involvement in research, constantly meeting new technological challenges. Right from the start, Biotrack employees were making tags for their own research into goshawks and squirrels. We believe this strong interest in biological research allows us to understand your needs and meet them more effectively.
