We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our growing Climate Change Team as a Project Officer focusing on carbon reduction. It is a great time to join the team as we address the increasing urgency to reduce emissions and build resilience to climate change, both within the Council and across Derbyshire.

The new Derbyshire County Council Climate Change Strategy: Achieving Net Zero sets out a range of projects and initiatives that we will need to deliver to meet our net zero ambitions. This new role will be responsible for developing and delivering these exciting and wide-ranging projects and initiatives, whilst also working to encourage others to take action.  

What will I be doing:

Developing and delivering projects within the climate change programme. This includes the delivery of a range of priority projects across the Council as set out in the Climate Change Strategy for 2021-2025, and mapping out delivery plans for projects for the longer-term
• Undertaking research, analysing and interpreting data, developing and presenting reports and information
Engaging with colleagues, partners, communities and businesses to reduce energy consumption and take other steps to reduce carbon impacts within the Council and across the county and wider region.  This could include, for example, working with the Council’s Property teams to undertake renewable energy retrofitting studies and communicating the findings of these studies to secure commitment and funding, and working with schools to develop and deliver decarbonisation projects and initiatives.
• Planning, delivering and evaluating training, advice and support on energy efficiency and carbon reduction in the home/school/workplace, including developing packages to support particular programmes being delivered by colleagues.

You will: 

• Have proven experience of successful project delivery and direct experience of working on climate change and wider sustainability projects/programmes, ideally within local government and including projects related to low carbon and renewable energy, and carbon reduction.
• Have previous experience of working successfully with internal and external partners in the public, private and voluntary sector to bring about change, and have contributed to the development of strategies or policies.
• Have proven ability to influence, build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels to effect change.
• Be a good communicator, flexible and capable of working both on their own initiative and as part of a team, and to work to tight timescales and agreed targets.
