We are seeking a Senior Ecologist with expertise in bat ecology to join a dynamic environmental team. This role is ideal for candidates with a minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience in environmental consulting, particularly in bat impact assessments. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects, including constraints and feasibility assessments, planning, EIAR, infrastructure design, and development. This position offers significant opportunities for career growth and exposure to diverse environmental sectors.

Requirements:

  • Degree in ecology, natural science, or a related biological discipline.
  • Chartered status or working towards it.
  • Minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience in an environmental role.
  • Proven experience in bat impact assessment for wind energy and solar developments.
  • Availability to work outside regular office hours, including early mornings and evenings.
  • Willingness to travel across Ireland and stay overnight as required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong report writing skills.
  • Experience engaging with external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and sub-contractors.
  • Full driving license.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee medium to large projects from inception to finalization, reporting to the Principal Ecologist/Technical Director.
  • Conduct and manage bat surveys, including PRAs, emergence/re-entry surveys, activity transects, and static detector surveys.
  • Write and review bat survey reports and provide technical expertise in ecological impact assessments.
  • Oversee project finance, equipment allocation, and staff management, ensuring timely and quality delivery of projects.
  • Mentor and train early-career ecologists in bat survey techniques, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as an Expert Witness at oral hearings when required.
  • Assist in business development, including preparing quotations and maintaining client relationships.
  • Identify research opportunities that benefit business development.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry guidelines and emerging scientific advancements.
