We are seeking a Senior Ecologist with a specialisation in botany to join a dynamic team, working on a variety of environmental projects across Ireland. This role involves leading terrestrial ecology projects, conducting botanical assessments, and contributing to the planning and environmental impact assessment (EIAR) processes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from infrastructure development to renewable energy, providing expert botanical and habitat management insights.
The ideal candidate will have strong field survey skills, particularly in flora and habitat assessment, coupled with the ability to analyze data and produce high-quality technical reports. This role is a mix of fieldwork and office-based tasks, requiring a detail-oriented professional who can deliver accurate and comprehensive ecological assessments.
Requirements:
- Honours Degree or Master’s degree in Environment, Botany, Ecology, Conservation, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental consultancy, with a focus on botanical surveys and habitat management in an Irish or UK context.
- Expertise in botanical and habitat assessments, including classification to Fossitt Level III.
- Comprehensive understanding of ecological legislation and planning policy in Ireland and the EU.
- Strong report-writing skills and experience with ecological impact assessments, including knowledge of the EU Habitats Directive.
- Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments, with availability to travel throughout Ireland, including overnight stays.
- A full driver’s licence is required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct complex botanical surveys, assessing habitat value and conducting impact assessments in accordance with relevant guidelines and legislation.
- Carry out Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and advise on habitat enhancement opportunities throughout project delivery.
- Implement and oversee habitat management prescriptions, including translocation and monitoring programs.
- Mentor and train junior ecologists in botanical survey techniques and best practices.
- Review and provide quality assurance for ecological reports prepared by colleagues.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive ecological reports, including detailed mapping and data analysis.
- Act as an Expert Witness at oral hearings when necessary.
