Opportunity:
Does the idea of pursuing your passion for Ecology from the comfort of your own home sound massively appealing? Well now you have the chance to make your dream working arrangement a possibility. This client is looking to bring a new Principal Ecologist whose primary directive is to act as a mentor and an advisor for the rest of the Ecology team. You’ll be based in a home-office, working for a major environmental consultancy, advising on a range of unique and interesting projects/developments across the UK and Ireland. You will be collaborating with other divisions within the consultancy, including arboriculturists and landscape architects as well as other team members from other divisions. This will give you the ability to learn from other specialists and incorporate their ways of thinking into your own method, allowing it to improve and develop. Speaking of development, you’ll also benefit from the company’s development scheme, including paid CIEEM membership.
Responsibility:
As previously stated, to succeed in this Principal Ecologist role, you must be able to take on a lead mentor and advisor role. Your main responsibilities will include carrying out typical ecological works; Ecological Enhancement schemes, preliminary ecological appraisals, BNG assessments, protected species mitigation schemes, protected species surveys and other eco consultancy work.
As an individual, you will need to be driving excellence, both in yourself and your team members, promoting positive internal professional growth. This will be achieved via your detailed reviewing of colleagues’ technical reports and mentoring of colleagues. Outside of ecological works, your responsibilities will encompass a client facing role, liaising and quoting fees with clientele as well as the advancement of the consultancy’s standard practices, pushing new, innovative ecological techniques.
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, there are a number of conditions you’ll need to meet, and the more of them that apply to you, the better. The requirements are as follows:
* Previous experience within an Ecology field, reaching Principal level or equivalent.
* Proven skill in PEAs, BNG assessments and Protected Species Surveys.
* Experience in a client facing role, including quoting fees and liaising.
* Strong working knowledge of UK legislation and planning policy framework.
* Although a fully remote role, you will need to come into the office 4-6 times annually.
There are also several desirable traits you as a candidate can have to improve their applications:
* Bat Survey License – other licenses are also useful; bats are just most desirable.
* An advanced specialism (ornithology, arboriculture etc.).
* Line management experience
* Experience with successful implementation of EPSM licenses.
