Wind Industry - Senior O&M Engineer

Organisational Context

* Reporting to the client project organisation in regard to the delivery of the O&M readiness objectives with particular focus to WTG maintenance, onshore site set-up, OFTO and BoP.
* Regular communication with clients and external contractors.
* Regular contact with senior members within the RES Asset Management department.

Key Accountabilities

* Support to the O&M package manager in developing and executing the O&M strategy and readiness plan
* Coordination of the O&M readiness team (delegation of responsibilities and workload management) as part of the project O&M package
* Act as single point of contact with the other project packages and support functions (e.g. procurement, legal, H&S) on a number of technical and commercial topics
* Ownership of the O&M readiness plan (develop documentation as the project evolves)
* Responsible for all communications with the WTG supplier’s O&M division (day to day liaison, monthly site meetings, coordination of technical workshops, etc.)
* Responsible for ensuring that contractual deadlines and requirement (e.g. with the WTG service provider) are met by both parties in preparation for the commencement of O&M activities
* Coordination of the site set-up activities (e.g. O&M base design, site team structure and related internal and external interfaces)
* Coordination of the O&M related interface with the grid package, including planning for the OFTO O&M phase
* Review of project-wide O&M concepts by providing proactive input in the “design for O&M” of all other project packages as required (e.g. WTGs, foundations, array cables, OFTO, onshore facilities, SCADA, logistics, etc.)
* Identify and manage any risks which may impact the project during the O&M phase
* Contribute towards design risk assessments, HazID and HazOp workshops and generally the management of HSQE issues related to wind farm O&M activities

Alongside the technical accountabilities, the role also includes the following accountabilities:

* Be responsible for managing work orders
* Development and maintenance of links with other RES departments relevant to the team’s scope

Willingness to travel within UK and EuropeKnowledge

* Knowledge of wind turbines, Balance of Plant, the offshore wind industry and O&M market
* Knowledge of offshore wind industry O&M concepts, activities, processes and procedures
* Working knowledge of service contracts (LOGIC, FIDIC, bespoke, vessel charter)
* Knowledge of project and contract management
* Understanding of contractor decision drivers and proactive contractor management processes
* Awareness of key HSQE legislation related to offshore O&M activities


* Ability to work under own initiative to manage the personal and team workload to meet demanding timescales on a number of simultaneous work streams
* Excellent communication skills including report writing, presentation and the ability to communicate effectively with the project team, clients and contractors
* Good project management skills in managing complex O&M activities (and associated contracts) within multidisciplinary teams
* Ability to manage complex project interfaces, risks and stakeholder needs


* Experience of the offshore wind industry and offshore O&M
* Good experience in managing O&M activities and multidisciplinary teams
* Experience of dealing with clients and contractors
* Capability of working on multiple projects and programmes concurrently
* Physical offshore O&M working experience desirable
* Contract management experience desirable


* A degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent qualification, but proven background in project (and contract) management
* Project management qualification (desirable)
* GWO offshore work qualifications (desirable)
* Hold a full clean driving licence (desirable)
