We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Ecologist to join a highly successful and rapidly growing ecology team based in Belfast. You will be working for a highly respected consultancy on major mulit-disciplinary projects. As a principal ecologist, you will be taking a lead role on client engagement and leadership of more junior members of staff.

We are looking for an ambitious ecologist who is looking for career progression and the chance to develop a team in Belfast. You will have a proven track record in project management, field work and technical reporting and some experience of mentoring other staff. The role will be a mix of client engagement and field work supporting whilst supporting other teams within the Scottish environment business and divisions across the UK.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Reporting to the Head of Ecology.
* To become an integrated member of the UK ecology teams and Edinburgh office multidisciplinary team.
* Effective management of and responsibility for large ecology projects including input to fee proposals, technical report writing and reviewing, tracking of project costs and providing support to junior team members projects.
* Clear and professional written and verbal communication with clients and other stakeholders.
* Completion of ecology surveys and pragmatic interpretation.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential

* Good client management, written and verbal communication skills.
* Good team working and project management skills.
* Good knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation, policy and guidance.
* Excellent field skills covering a range of taxa including Phase 1 habitat surveys.
* Experience of preparing mitigation method statements, including drafting licences applications,
* Good business development skills or ambition to develop these skills.
* Full driving licence.

Desirable

* Specialist skills in areas such as GIS, bat sound analysis, ornithology and/or protected species mitigation.
* Chartered Environmentalist or ability to apply.
