Salary: £22,671 - £36,153 a year

Hours: 37 hours a week

As a member of the Specialist Advisory Team, you will be providing customer focused, specialist advice on a range of issues relating to waste and recycling. As Supervising Officer for the multi-million pound waste contract, and Responsible Person for the Public Conveniences contract, your role will involve contracts monitoring, managing relationships with the contractors and ensuring the key performance indicators (esp. NI 195) are upheld.

In addition, you will also be responsible for the delivery and ongoing development of key projects, such as the Garden Waste scheme and the Waste Composition Analysis, ensuring that required returns are submitted on time and representing the council at various meetings and committees.

A key aspect of the role is working with and coaching colleagues in the Customer Advisory and Case Management teams towards being a joined-up Centre of Excellence in the efficient management of waste related enquiries.

With relevant industry experience, you will have an up to date knowledge of waste legislation and the waste hierarchy.  You will have excellent management and communication skills and be able to work on your own initiative. You will have the skills required to effectively network, consult and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. the existing Joint Waste Partnership) and external agencies (e.g. East Sussex County Council, Highways Agency, Environmental Agency). You will have experience of budget management, statistical reporting, working under pressure, objective setting and meeting targets. You will be passionate about the environment and sustainability issues with the ability to grasp complex legislation and the capacity to explain, apply and monitor such legislation. You will have excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills and strong IT and administrative skills.
