About the team

Our energy team works extensively on improving energy efficiency and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. Our energy experts work at the intersection of policy and practice, helping government and commercial clients worldwide devise effective energy strategies and develop programmes for today, and tomorrow. 

For example, we are currently working on:

• Technical and economic analysis to underpin energy efficiency incentives
• Ecodesign and labelling regulations for a wide range of energy-using products
• Sustainability programmes in industry and commerce
• Financial mechanisms to assist uptake of renewable

About the role

As part of our Energy team, you will have the opportunity to:

• Support research, analysis, technical assistance and evaluation projects in the energy sector, focusing on energy efficiency issues
• Engage with stakeholders through both quantitative and qualitative survey and technical-economic analysis tasks
• Prepare data sets using incomplete data/ evidence. Develop reasoned assumptions to fill gaps. 
• Develop existing or new modelling approaches to answer policy questions.
• Report analytical outputs in a clear, concise manner to a non-technical audience
• Maintain appropriate records / uphold quality assurance integrity

Required experience

• Around 4 years’ experience working in a consulting environment working on energy and engineering issues. 
• Minimum of a Bachelors level degree in engineering, environmental economics or related discipline
• Understanding of energy efficiency technologies and their commercial deployment in industrial applications and experience of broader energy efficiency and environmental impacts / circular economy
• Understanding of climate change mitigation measures
• Strong quantitative analysis capability, preferably applied in a public policy analysis role


• Understanding of heat decarbonisation and/or decentralised energy supply and storage technologies and their commercial deployment would be a distinct advantage
• Experience implementing public policy analysis guidelines such as the UK Government Green Book guidance and European Commission Better

 Regulations Guidelines

• Experience of preparing regulatory impact assessments and/ or cost benefit analyses using scenario modelling in Excel or other programmes. 
• Understanding of good practice social research techniques, including literature reviews, rapid evidence assessments, surveys and interviews.
